New Delhi — In a rare interview, former Indian cricket team president Rajiv Shukla said the Indian cricket board is in the “dubitative phase” and that the BCCI’s current chairman, Shah Rukh Khan, is “not as effective as he should be.”
In an interview to The Times of India published Sunday, Shuklaid that he would like to see the BCC I become more “efficient” and said he is not opposed to the move by Khan and his colleagues to form a new board in India.
Khan, a former Indian captain and coach, was appointed as the new chairman of the BCC in January.
He is currently serving a four-year term, after a tenure of 17 years.
He has also been the chairman of Indian cricket for nearly a decade.
In an exclusive interview with The Times, Shugla said he was “not against the idea” of a new BCCI.
“But I think it’s difficult because of the current state of the board,” he said.
“We have a few very talented people, but they are not as effective at managing the BCC as they could be.
And I don’t think they are as effective in managing the board in terms of what they need to do to be successful.”
It’s a difficult balance to strike between the board that needs to be a leader and the board of which you don’t necessarily want to be.
“Shuklays statement came a day after he accused Khan of “failing” to implement his vision for the BCCII, and that he was now trying to replace the previous board with a “dynasty.””
But it was not the right time to do so.””
I am not sure whether this was the right way to run the BCC.
But it was not the right time to do so.”
I think the current board has been failing in its duty and is failing in governance.
And Shah Rukhan is not the best person to run a board.
“Khan has said that he will be leaving the BCC for a “different” organisation.
