Lincoln City Development has released plans for a mixed-use development in the city centre.
Lincoln City Development said the new mixed-rise building would be the “home” of its Lincoln City Centre development, which will include a park, a theatre, restaurant, gym, community garden, residential accommodation and a shopping mall.
The building is being designed by architect John McWilliams, who is also responsible for the new development of the South City development at South Street.LCD said it was looking forward to seeing the building complete its first phase of construction and to see it through to completion in 2021.
It said the development would be designed to “reinforce Lincoln City as a hub for economic development”.
The firm said the building would “add an important new element to the city and its wider neighbourhood”.
“The design will feature a central plaza with a number of public spaces,” the firm said.
“It will also include a public open-air courtyard for community events and activities.”
Lincoln has been struggling with a lack of new housing development and the city’s growth has stalled.
The development is being billed as a major boost for the Lincoln City region, with developers hoping to turn the city into a “mini-city” by 2025.
A report by the Lincoln Community Development Agency in June suggested the CBD was experiencing a “churning in the supply of affordable housing”.LCD’s plans will see the development expand from its current five-storey block to include the building’s “lanes”, which it says will create more residential space and create more walkable streets.
Lcd said the park and theatre would be used by community groups and other groups that use the area for social or recreational events.
It also said it would create a community green space for the area by planting trees and landscaping.
The project is the second phase of Lincoln’s development to be announced since the state government announced a major housing push.
A total of 1,700 homes will be built over the next two years, including a 7,500-square-metre building at the intersection of the CBD and South Streets.
The plans will also see the new Lincoln City development expand to include a retail precinct and residential apartments.
The council said the city had the “highest rate of development in NSW”.
