Sandy City has announced plans to build a $20 million apartment building on its site next to the former site of the Chicago Public Library.
The building, at 1526 W. Irving Park Ave., will feature about 500 housing units, with more than 300 of them planned to be affordable housing.
The developer says it expects to begin construction in early 2018 and open in 2021.
The project is expected to be fully funded through a loan from the Illinois Department of Public Housing.
The building will be constructed in a “fully integrated development,” with more open space, retail and office space, according to Sandy City.
The project will also include a retail space, a hotel, offices and residential space, among other features.
The site is slated for development on the site of a former Public Library in Chicago.
The site is currently owned by Chicago-based Westland Real Estate, which is developing the project.
