Posted February 16, 2018 06:07:00The Adelaide CBD is set to be transformed into a mixed-use development, a project which is expected to deliver much needed economic development to the area.
According to the City of Adelaide, a “bridges development” is an urban transformation, which can be seen as a new and innovative way of delivering public services and public goods.
The project will include a new shopping centre, hotels, apartments, office buildings and other facilities.
The proposed development, which will include up to 20,000 apartments, is expected have the largest density in the city, with around 8,000 units.
The Adelaide City Council is planning to begin discussions about the proposed development in 2019, with further planning and public consultations expected to begin in 2021.
The redevelopment of the Adelaide CBD will create around 400 jobs, and will include approximately 20,500 new residents over the course of the development.
The City of Sydney also recently announced plans to redevelop the CBD in partnership with the City, which included the construction of a new public shopping centre in the CBD.
“I’m very excited about the new bridge-city concept and we’re really looking forward to seeing what happens with the rest of the projects coming through,” said Councillor Paul Dickson, who is the project’s architect.
“We’re looking forward not just to getting a new mall, but also new public space.
We need to look at new spaces to bring our residents together.”
The City has been working on the project since 2013, and it has already gained a number of positive feedbacks, with one of the main objectives being to “reduce congestion” in the area, with a pedestrian bridge being the primary feature of the project.
It is expected that this project will see approximately 5,000 new residential units built, and there will be about 7,000 jobs created, with approximately $8 billion in economic impact.
The bridge city concept is also being supported by the City’s Sustainable Infrastructure Initiative, which has been actively working to address the negative impact of the area’s infrastructure on local businesses.
The Bridge City is part of a broader plan for the city to be redeveloped by 2020.
The development is expected, along with other public and private developments, to create thousands of new jobs and generate around $50 billion in tax revenue.
The new public mall will feature a mix of retail, residential and entertainment venues, with the majority of the buildings in the new development to be residential.
The plan includes a proposed new residential and retail precinct, which is slated to be completed by 2021.
